Catastrophe is something terrible that has happened which has changed the persons whole life around. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I’m still trying to figure out how that could be. The second tragic element shown in this novel is remorse.

Remorse means feeling guilty or regret for something you haven’t committed.

To begin, the quote “The World is full of suffering, but it is also full of the overcoming of it” (itsworthquoting.com, 2013) by Hellen Keller has a strong meaning to encourage individuals to stand strong when a tragedy appears in life.

Firstly, one of the tragic elements portrayed in the novel is catastrophe.

This is one of the main reasons why I like this book.

Since the letters are addressed, “Dear Friend,” we can imagine that he is sending them to us and we feel like we are a part of his story. Acceptance of your sexuality, religion, and yourself in general. He doesn’t like to say no to people, and he doesn’t like to do something that will make someone uncomfortable or upset. As an adult, it takes you back to the days when you were a teenager, as a teenager you can connect with it and make sense of it through your everyday struggles, and as a child, it teaches you what lies ahead. This book is all about finding out who you are and where you belong, and there’s no better time to do that than when you are a teenager. The novel itself was written in 1999, though it is debated about when the story actually took place. It touches on topics like family relationships, friendship, drugs and alcohol, sexuality, and loss, but what makes this story so comprehensive and amazing is that it does not dwell on any topic. It makes it seem like Charlie could easily be any one of us.It makes it seem like when life gets you down, all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to make you feel infinite. He was one of Charlie’s only friend and they had a special connection as many best friends do. Aunt Helen was Charlie’s mom’s sister and Charlie’s favorite person in the world. He suffers from depression, which resulted from sexual abuse as a young child, and because his best friend committed suicide just before they started high school together. While trying to start his life over again, Charlie is drawn into a crowd of friends who are the most fun loving, crazy and amazing people that he has ever met.The critically acclaimed debut novel from Stephen Chbosky follows observant “wallflower” Charlie as he charts a course through the strange world between adolescence and adulthood. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie must learn to navigate those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.A #1 New York Times best seller for more than a year, an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults (2000) and Best Book for Reluctant Readers (2000), and with millions of copies in print, this novel for teen readers (or “wallflowers” of more-advanced age) will make you laugh, cry, and perhaps feel nostalgic for those moments when you, too, tiptoed onto the dance floor of life.
